What Are You Reading?

@TeacherToolkitIn 2010, Ross Morrison McGill founded @TeacherToolkit from a simple Twitter account through which he rapidly became the ‘most followed teacher on social media in the UK’. In 2015, he was nominated as one of the ‘500 Most Influential People in Britain’ by The Sunday… Read more about @TeacherToolkitWhat do people read on the Teacher Toolkit website? We’ve switched to using Google Analytics to help improve the performance of our website. We share our data to here to help encourage further growth and offer something ‘geeky’ for the technical buffs …Total VisitorsIn September 2018 we had 71,229 users. This is up from 58,173 since last month. In total, 132,000+ views throughout September which is below our monthly average. We know teachers have their heads down in September … Even though our content is ‘back to school’ focused, this is not enough to entice busy teachers away from their desks, planning and managing new classes!Peak Time AnalyticsSundays, Mondays and now Wednesday evenings are our peak reading time; Saturdays continue to receive high traffic first thing in the morning. Our most popular day last month saw 7,442 views on the site when 13 Marking Workload Tips for Teachers was published on Monday 24th September 2018.New vs. ReturningOur growth has increased with new sessions at 59,467 in September 2018 – up from 45,837 last month – and with 71,229 of our readers returning to visit the site (compared with 58,173 last month). It’s good traffic for us and gives us a real insight into the working habits of teachers and our readers during the back to school season.Page ViewsCompared to last month, our sessions are up at 132,954 compared with 106,358 last month. Views per session time are up by 6.5 percent to 1.45 average page views per session. Sessions and Average Session TimeSessions represent a period during which the user interacts with your site. This month figures have increased by 17.9% to 91,995 users interacting with our website – that’s up from 78,029 last month. If you ever need data to show teachers are logging in to ‘thinking about teaching’ during the back to school period, here is your proof. The average session time is 1 minute 11 seconds, which is up by 12.65 per cent. This is why we continue to keep our blog posts to less than 700 words, or 3-minute reads. Teachers are busy people and need quick reads that are accessible…Bounce RateWe try our hardest to share less on social media to improve the bounce rate and move towards a position where we are established and readers naturally come to us. If we share too much on social media, we run the risk each time that we share to our 250,000 followers, people do not click on that one link that is shared. An average bounce rate for mainstream websites is 41-55%. So, we have a lot of work to do, but it is improving! Perhaps we should share less on social media to improve this?SearchesA new feature this month, below we share what our readers are searching for and how often the ‘keyword’ features in our search engine. “Workload” and “marking” feature heavily. You will see we have quite a bit of work to do to speed up loading times for each blog.Sources of TrafficMost readers are coming to TeacherToolkit from Google (46,867 traffic users, up from users last month), which is good considering it’s the first month back to school. This shows that our SEO is starting to work within Google and that Twitter is no-longer driving most of our traffic. If there any other stats you’d like us to include in next month’s ‘What Are You Reading?’, just let us know. We can also help you with social media exposure and social media training.Related
